About the entire exhibit’s Local Collector:
Lifelong Huntington County resident Sumner B. Sheets knew at a young age what he wanted to do in life. A farmer by trade, it was his goal to visit far-away places of some of the world’s most uncanny – and in some cases dangerous-wildlife. His goal soon became a passion and he began to assemble several far-reaching trips to realize his dream.
While he did not set out to have such a collection, he did amass a substantial exhibit of animals and fish over his lifetime. All preserved using only the best taxidermy skills, each animal and fish has been preserved now for generations to come. Sumner’s desire was to preserve the animals that he not only pursued, but valued and respected so highly.
His collection speaks to Sumer’s love of the outdoors and his skills as a true outdoorsman and conservationist. Now everyone can experience and learn from his travels and outdoor achievements.
This display serves as a tribute to Sumner’s lifetime achievement, to be visited and enjoyed by all ages.
